The city announced today that it has cancelled its contract with IRI Golf Group to operate part of The Shores Golf Course (nine holes and parts of two others) on property bordering Lake Ray Hubbard that the city has leased from Dallas. The city and IRI have been at odds for years over maintenance and upkeep problems at the course that homeowners said at a special February council meeting were lowering property values.
“The best outcome would be an operator of the course that would maintain it properly,” said Mayor Bill Cecil. “Based on history, that (IRI continuing as operator) would be an improbability.”
Jeff Silverstein of IRI said he had filed suit against the city and a hearing was set for May 26. “We’re trying to resolve it as amicably as possible,” he said.
City Manager Julie Couch confirmed that the city has been served with an injunction that bars its taking further action before the hearing in one of Rockwall’s district courts.
In the interim, the course remains open.
