February 4 is officially the first day to file to run for office in the City of Rockwall General Election on May 12, 2012. However, since the city does not hold weekend office hours, the first day to file moves to Monday, February 6. City Council places 2, 4 and 6 will be on the ballot.
Council Members Cliff Sevier (Place 4) and Margo Nielsen (Place 6) have both served the allowable number of terms under the City Charter and are therefore not eligible to run in their current positions. Council Member Mark Russo (Place 2) is eligible to run for one additional two-year term.
The last day for candidates to file for a place on the ballot is March 5 at 5 p.m.
Informational packets are available from and paperwork must be filed with the City Secretary’s office on the third floor of City Hall, 385 South Goliad Street. Candidate packets may also be requested on the City Secretary’s web page at http://www.rockwall.com/citysecretary.
The city election will be administered by the Rockwall County Elections Administrator, and more extensive election related information will be available on the county’s web site at www.rockwallcountytexas.com/elections.
Early voting will be held April 30 thru May 8 at the Rockwall County Elections office on the downtown square at 107 E. Kaufman. Election day voting is May 12 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Utley Middle School.
Applications for ballots by mail must be requested from and mailed to the Rockwall County Elections Administrators Office, Attn: Glenda Denton, 107 East Kaufman, Rockwall TX 75087. Applications must be received no later than the close of business on May 4.
