Republican Michelle Leek Sutton to Run for Rockwall County Justice of the Peace Precincts 1 and 4
Michelle Leek Sutton has formally announced her candidacy for the Republican Party’s nomination as Rockwall County Justice of the Peace Precincts 1 and 4.
“After a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to run for Justice of the Peace. Rockwall County deserves a public servant who has the education, experience, and enthusiasm necessary to meet the needs of a thriving, prosperous, and vibrant community,” Sutton said.
Michelle says that she is uniquely qualified for the office of Justice of Peace. “When you look at the duties of the Justice of the Peace you realize that it is a judicial position, not a political position. I am the only candidate both licensed to practice law and with judicial experience running for this office. I can draw on my experience to provide the citizens of Rockwall County a Court run in accordance with the Texas Constitution and all other applicable laws.”
Michelle holds an MBA, a Juris Doctorate, a certificate in health law, and is an associate judge and lawyer.
Michelle will bring extensive legal experience to the office of Justice of the Peace. She is the Associate Judge for Dallas County Probate Court #3 and has presided at over 6,000 probable cause hearings for the Mental Illness Court. She was a trial lawyer for eight years including two years as a Dallas County Probate Court Investigator where she investigated the circumstances of children, disabled individuals, and elderly persons referred to the Probate Courts for guardianship. “I served vulnerable citizens in crisis. I worked at night, on weekends, and during holidays due to the demands of the job. That is often necessary from someone who is a public servant,” Sutton said.
Michelle has over 20 years of experience running and advising small businesses and believes that taxpayers are like shareholders. “Governments owe a duty to taxpayers to be fiscally responsible and accountable, and each department has a duty to provide services in a competent and efficient manner,” Sutton said.
Michelle is actively involved with the Autism Treatment Center of Texas. She has also been recognized for providing legal services to the poor by the State Bar of Texas. Her professional memberships include the Texas, Dallas County, and Rockwall County Bar Associations.
Michelle moved to Rockwall in 1991 and ran Lone Star Art Glass, Inc., a family owned glass distribution company, from the lumber yard (now “The Center”) in downtown Rockwall. “I didn’t have many local customers, but people would come by to see the Dallas Cowboy collection I displayed in the front office,” Sutton said.
Michelle and her husband Rob live in The Shores in Rockwall and attend Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Their daughter, Mary Ann, attends Grace Hartman elementary school and their daughter, Monica, attends pre-K at The Lighthouse Private School.
