Stan McWhirter Files for Rockwall County Commissioner

From Stan’s Website:

Happy New Year!

Today is January 1st, 2010. A new year, a new decade, a chance for new beginnings, and new challenges.

2010 will start with a huge challenge for Pam and me. I have thrown my hat in the ring for Rockwall County Commissioner, Precinct 4. I’ll be running against an incumbent (David Magness), who has been in office for eight years. Obviously, that makes it an up hill fight.

Let me tell you why I’ve decided to take this on. The reasons are many. I’ll try to be brief and just mention a couple.

First - I’ve been sitting on the sidelines, complaining about government, the Republican Party in particular, for years. I can no longer complain, if I’m not willing to try and effect change. Our county government has become a bit like Washington – they think they know what’s right for the citizens. When it comes to spending our money, most of the current commissioners have chosen to ignore the will of the people. I am tired of our elected officials claiming to be conservatives and then doing things that prove they are not. Their actions expand the role of government, rather than reign it in. It seems that once elected, most forget the definition of conservatism. I believe that it’s time for “We the People” to demand that the folks we elect to represent us, do just that. They need to trust us. They need to respect the fact that, if given all the information, we will do the right thing.

Second.             This is a pivotal moment in Rockwall County’s future. Our population has expanded rapidly over the past several years. The challenges ahead are many and varied. The highest responsibility of local government is shaping the future of our community so that the lives of all citizens are enhanced. The most important item on my agenda as County Commissioner will be to create the means for the citizens in Precinct 4 to have many opportunities to let their voices be heard and have their concerns be addressed.

I could go on and on about all this, but here’s the bottom line. It’s time for the Rockwall County Commissioner’s Court to have a change in attitude. With two commissioner seats, and the county judge up for election, now is the time to change the values and beliefs of the court.

I need your support! If I’m going to have a chance to prevail, I must have your help. Whatever you can provide will be greatly appreciated. The life blood of any campaign is money and people. Mike Mishler has agreed to be my campaign treasurer. He is a highly respected member of our community and a gentleman of impeccable integrity. I’m very proud to have him on my team.

Here’s how you can help -

If you would like to make a campaign donation, please make your check out to:

Mail it ASAP to:

1007 Saint Charles Court

Rockwall, TX 75087-4738

If you live in Precinct 4, and would be willing to work in your neighborhood in any way, please call me or email me. I would like to meet as many folks as possible through informal settings like coffees, etc.

Of course, yard signs and handouts will be coming. The most important thing to remember is that time is of the essence. The Republican Primary is Tuesday, March 2nd – only 59 days from today. Help me make the statement that conservative government, one that listens to it’s citizens, is not a dead concept. Incumbents can actually be beaten.Change is possible!

Keep up with the campaign at www.vote4stan.com.

We just got it up and are in the process of fleshing it out.

Thank you! I hope we all have a new year, and a new decade, filled with hope for the future and the reality of brighter tomorrows.

Sincerely yours,

Stan McWhirter
