Rockwall Road Closing
The City of Rockwall announced that beginning Monday, January 4, Emma Jane will be closed at the FM-740 and SH-205 intersection due to TXDOT construction. This closure should be the last of the major intersection closures. Texas Department of Transportation will open portions of the intersection as the construction allows. Mayor Pro-Tem Sweet to Run for Rockwall County Clerk
Rockwall, TX- Rockwall Mayor Pro Tem David Sweet has filed for Rockwall County Clerk in the Republican Primary. Mr. Sweet, a local business and civic leader, is ready to provide the leadership that Rockwall County citizens have come to expect. “Rockwall County is growing at a rapid pace, but quality customer service should not be sacrificed in the midst of growth.” remarks Sweet.
He also points to his record of leadership on City Council and within the community.
His record includes keeping a fiscally conservative eye on the budget, improving customer service to its citizens and, ensuring project deadlines were met such as the 205 By-Pass. “My record shows that my leadership style encourages teamwork and results.” states Sweet.

David Sweet and his wife Kim have two boys Austin and Brody. He is active in Rotary, First Baptist Church of Rockwall, and a former board member of the Rockwall Boys and Girls Club. Furthermore, he has served as President of both the Rockwall County Republican Men’s Club and Rockwall County Young Republicans.

Bookstore Coming to Rockwall Texas
The City of Rockwall reports that Half Price Books has signed a contract with Woodmont to bring a bookstore to Rockwall, Texas. Planning director Robert Lacroix said that a demolition permit has been issued to Woodmont Properties, and that Half Price Books will take at least half of the old Circuit City location in Rockwall, Texas. Information is still sketchy but more will be released as it becomes available. W0odmont is the Owner/Management company for the Plaza in Rockwall, a 50 acre, 500,000 square foot retail center.
Rockwall Helping Hands offers H1N1 Vaccine at Clinic
Helping Hands of Rockwall County has a supply of H1N1 vaccine for any Rockwall County resident that wants to be vaccinated against the Swine Flu virus. There is no cost for the vaccine, but there is a $10 administration charge. A sliding scale is available to those who cannot afford the administrative fee.
The Health Center of Helping Hands is operated out of the Reeves Service Center at 102 South First Street. The Center serves uninsured and under insured residents of Rockwall County as well as Medicaid and Medicare recipients. Rockwall County residents living at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level may qualify for fees based on a sliding scale.
The Health Center of Helping Hands is Rockwall County´s only clinic serving uninsured and underinsured residents. The Center served 4,909 unduplicated patients between July 2007 and June 2008. The Center is also in the process of becoming a preferred Medicaid provider since there are currently no physicians in the County taking new Medicaid patients.
