Rockwall Honors Police Volunteer John Fitzwater

RockwallPDThe City of Rockwall Police Department’s Community Service office located in the Brookshire’s shopping center will be renamed in honor of the late John Fitzwater.

The request to rename the center in honor of Mr. Fitzwater was made by the Rockwall Police Officer’s Association and then approved by the Rockwall City Council by a unanimous vote on Monday November 16th 2009.

Mr. Fitzwater spent many hours volunteering his services to the Rockwall Police Department beginning in 1998 when he attended the Citizen Police Academy. He then joined the Citizens on Patrol organization and became a police department volunteer.

“John Fitzwater was an outstanding citizen who spent countless hours in selfless volunteer service to both the Rockwall community and the men and women of the Rockwall Police Department,” said Chief Mark Moeller. “I believe this is a fitting tribute to a man who put others before himself.”

Mr. Fitzwater had 724 documented community service hours plus numerous hours he volunteered or served that were not documented. He performed puppet shows for children’s programs, patrolled neighborhoods and businesses and trained new volunteers on how to operate Sky Watch – which he delivered and picked-up.

He also held the office of President of the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association from January 2008 until his death on September 19, 2009.

Rockwall Halloween begins with Scare on the Square

Rockwall Texas, November 1st, 2009.

Rockwall Celebrated Halloween in style. Scare on the Square, sponsored by Friends of Downtown and the Downtown Rockwall Merchants, and the Rockwall Main Street Program,  kicked off at 4pm and was immediately inundated by hundreds of ghosts and goblins from all over Rockwall County. Participating Retailers included Echo Wear, Restaurant Ava,  Zanata’s, Texas Traditions, Texas Roast, Groovy’s, Rockwall Cake Factory, and many more.

After Scare on the Square most of the kids hit the streets for a lucrative night of candy gathering. In the Shores the streets were packed and hundreds of  kids scored big. The big kids attended the Rockwall High School homecoming dance. Overall a great time was had by all and it was another great Halloween in the City of Rockwall. I particularly enjoyed my kids Halloween Candy after they went to bed.
