Rockwall County Swine Flu Update

This e-mail was sent to the Mayors and City Managers of Rockwall County from the Rockwall County Emergency Management Coordinator yesterday.

Mayors & City Managers,

I just wanted to give you an update of the activities surrounding the current Swine Flu event.

The Emergency Management Office has been working closely with Dr. McKenney (County Public Health Authority) and Dr. Lensch (City of Rockwall) to ensure a proper response to this event.  We have been closely monitoring events by participating in daily conference calls with the State Operation Center & Public Health Officials.  As a County, we are continuing to monitor the conditions & provide information as necessary to our emergency management partners within the County.

We have not had any known or confirmed cases of Swine Flu in Rockwall County.  Our basic message is for the public to remain calm and continue to use basic health practices; such as staying away from those with a known illness, washing hands frequently, cover coughs & sneezes and stay home if you are sick.

This afternoon, the Governor issued a “Proclamation of a Public Health Emergency.”  This was done to ensure that the State is proactive in its response and allocation of resources to this event.

I will provide additional updates should there be any significant changes.

Respectfully,
Joe DeLane, EMC
Rockwall County

ABS Blast to Exhibit Abrasive Blastroom Technology at Windpower Conference

ABS Blast, known for its design, development and installation of state of the art Abrasive Blasting Systems, will be in booth 5541 at the 2009 Windpower Conference & Exhibition May 4th – 7th, 2009, at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Headquartered in Garland Texas, ABS Blast continues to be the leading manufacturer of abrasive blasting technology for many leading industries including Wind Energy manufacturers.  ABS has designed, developed and installed state of the art abrasive blasting systems for many wind energy manufacturers.

Trinity Structural Towers, Inc., a leading manufacturer of commercial structural wind towers, hired ABS Blast to build two systems to meet the current back log in wind generation equipment. Aerisyn, a company which is establishing themselves in the wind energy market, chose ABS Blast to develop and install a unit at their Chattanooga Tennessee facility.

ABS Blast, designs, manufactures, and installs
a broad range of blast room equipment; from self contained portable reclaim modules to complete custom facilities for the Military, Rail, Aircraft, Wind, and other industries. ABS Blast engineering and fabrication staff has over 100 years of collective experience designing and building blast room equipment and facilities and utilizes extensive abrasive blasting background on each project. Eric Thomas, President and CEO of ABS Blast stated “Our common sense approach to designing a blast room begins with understanding the size of the items to be blasted. The blast room should be large enough to accommodate the largest work piece and provide ample room for the blasters to work. Since blast room size is proportional to dust collector airflow capacity, correctly sizing the room is a key factor in cost effective design. We take all aspects of the project into consideration when we design and build a custom blast facility for our clients.”

ABS has established a worldwide network of distributors, supported and backed by the experienced, professional personnel at our corporate headquarters. ABS holds themselves to the highest standards of quality of workmanship and customer service.

Abrasive Blasting Systems and associated equipment are also commonly referred to as media blasting, shot blasting, grit blasting, blasting rooms, blasting cabinets, abrasive blasting, shot peening, blast rooms, shot blasting equipment, media blasting equipment, blasting booths, and plastic media blasting. These systems range from small to large units designed for industrial applications. ABS Blast designs and installs all variations. For information on ABS Blast visit www.absblast.com or call

Hydroseeders: Mechanical vs. Jet Agitation

When considering purchasing a hydromulching  or hydroseeding  machine there is one important consideration. Is mechanical agitation better than jet agitation? First you must know the difference.

Jet  Agitation is when the slurry (mulch and seed) inside the machine is kept in suspension by the spraying of water jets into the tank where the mix is held.

Mechanical agitation ( a Turfmaker hydromulch machine benefit) is where large paddles turn through out the slurry and evenly mix the mulch and seed in the tank.

The answer is mechanical agitation is the best way to go. Here’s why:

Soupy Mixes are needed on dry powdery soils and on sandy soils. Jet agitation machines can only make soupy mixes. Although they are slow, jet agitation machines can spray a soupy mix of paper mulch onto loose soil and grow a nice lawn some of the time. Imagine what a TurfMaker® hydromulcher  with mechanical agitation can do with soupy mixes.

Thicker Slurries are needed on hard soils and wet soils. Soupy mixes run when applied to hard or wet soils. Inadequate mulch applications are an invitation to washouts and poor germination. It is not possible to make thick slurries with jet agitation machines. Handling thicker slurries are easy with mechanical agitation. Mechanical agitation is standard on all TurfMaker®hydroseeder machines.

Wood Fiber Mulch is frequently specified by landscape architects and governmental agencies. It is not practical to use 100% wood mulch in any jet agitation machine. It will clog. Wood fiber mulch is easy with a TurfMaker® hydroseeder.

Bonded Fiber Matrix products are special wood mulch products that must be mixed and applied more thickly than regular wood mulch applications. These products cannot be used in any jet agitation machine as specified by the mulch manufacturer. Think TurfMaker® hydromulchers!

Hydro-Sprigging is becoming more widely used to plant vegetative grasses with substantially less costs than laying solid sod. The chemistry and technology are emerging making hydrosprigging a highly reliable way to plant new grasses. Some grasses can be planted by using living pieces of grass instead of seed in the tank of a TurfMaker® hydroseeder.

A TurfMaker® hydromulcher with mechanical agitation can do soupy mixes, thicker slurries, wood fiber mulch, bonded fiber matrix products, and even hydro-sprigging.
