Anita Perry kicks off Rockwall’s Main Street Program

Anita Perry speaks to Rockwall.

Anita Perry addresses Main Street Rockwall.

Greeted by throngs of students waving American and Texas Flags, Anita Perry and entourage came to Rockwall Texas to kick of the Main Street Program. Hundreds were on hand to witness the First Lady of Texas on her official Visit to the newest Main Street City.  City, County, and State officials were on hand to Greet Mrs. Perry and be witness to the unveiling of her architectural rendering of Rockwall’s downtown.

The ceremony was started at 10:30 a.m. by Bethany Golden, Rockwall’s newly appointed main street manager. After the invocation, pledge and a rendition of “Deep in the Heart of Texas” by the Rockwall High School Choir, Ms. Golden then introduced Jon Hansen, Texas Historical Commission Chairman. After Mr. Hansen Curt Nelson, Sr. Vice President of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas spoke briefly. The Independent Bankers Association has sponsored the Main Street visits for 15 years.  At that point Mr. Bill Cecil, Mayor of Rockwall introduced Mrs. Perry who addressed the crowd. With rain moving in Mrs. Perry quickly unveiled the architectural rendition of Main Street. Everyone then recessed to “The Center” for a short reception. Mrs. Perry then boarded her plane at Ralph Hall International Airport and went to West, Texas to honor their main street.

With the pomp and circumstance over the job of revitalizing downtown Rockwall now falls on Bethany Golden and the Main Street Advisory Board. All of Rockwall anxiously awaits what is hopefully a new beginning to a historic downtown Rockwall.
